As a prelude to its third scientific conference with the theme “Fostering A Healthier Singapore Through Behavioural And Community Interventions”, this seminar "Building Health Coaching Competency in Singapore and Internationally" brings together health and wellness services practitioners and stakeholders in Singapore and UK to share, discuss and foster integration within the health and wellness coaching fraternity.

A Health Coaching Story – Past, Present & Future

Health coaching is a powerful, evidence-based modality for lifestyle modification, behavioural change and health creation. It is also an emergent global profession, with qualified, certified health coaches working in a variety of settings with individuals and groups, communities and with employers and insurance providers and, increasingly in population health.

In this session, Dr Izabella Natrins CEO at the UK & International Health Coaching Association will present an overview of the background, current themes and future direction for the discipline of health coaching and health coaches.

The session will include a role-play demonstration of a health coaching led clinical consultation - drawing out the differences in style and communication between a conventional ‘expert-led’ consultation and a coaching approach.

Health Coaching is the Beating Heart of Whole-Person and Integrative Medicine

In this session, Dr. Izabella Natrins CEO at the UK & International Health Coaching Association will position health coaching as an integrative, whole-person discipline for improving health outcomes and population health creation, based on the her paper: Is Health Coaching the Beating Heart of Integrative and Personalised Medicine?, showing how health coaching can underpin and improve the efficacy of a wide range of approaches to medicine, from conventional to more holistic approaches.

Building Health Coaching Competency in Singapore

In this session, Ms. Susan Tan, President of the Society of Behavioural Health will present the multifaceted roles of health coaching along the health-illness spectrum, from the proactive realms of disease prevention and health maintenance to disease management and palliative care. She will also be unveiling SBHS’s vision of advancing health coaching in Singapore including its definition of health coaching and a competency framework that clearly paves the way for exciting careers from months of tireless work from the Health Coaching Chapter within SBHS. This eagerly anticipated competency framework is set to make its grand debut to Singapore’s health coaching community. Its adoption by the health coaching ecosystem will help to revolutionise the standards of health coaching practice in Singapore, elevating them to new heights, prioritising public safety and gaining public trust and confidence in health coaching.
